IN HARMONY WITH PEOPLE AND NATURE
In everything she does, KD Dickinson strives for harmony…Playing her guitar or banjo, alone or with friends, her music blends with the breezes blowing through the trees. Being outdoors, playing music or just listening to the serene music of the mountains are some of KD’s favorite activities, and some of the reasons that she loves living in Western Montana.
THE LONG WAY HOME
Like many people, KD didn’t grow up in Montana. While visiting a friend in 1976, KD’s truck broke down. She fell in love with Montana during that visit and was ready to put down roots by the time her truck was fixed. The wide open spaces, the intense beauty, the quietness, and the sense of community have that effect on natives and transplants alike. KD loves this area and appreciates the style of the individuals who choose to live here.
Hired as a fire-fighter by the forest service, KD felt she had landed her dream job of living and working in the woods. She was used to having jobs usually held by men and was proud of her ability to keep up with the guys. For eight years, KD worked on a district line crew and then the “hot shot” crew while working in construction in the off-season. During this time KD built her own home. She was able to parlay that construction experience into her own contracting business.
KD and a friend built a successful partnership renovating homes, refurbishing fixer-uppers and building spec homes. The experience of selling their projects showed KD that people appreciate her listening ear and her knack for helping them find exactly what they want in a home. Knowing houses from the ground up has made KD a real estate virtuoso in the Missoula area.
Putting down roots for KD also means being involved in the community as more than just a wonderful place to live and work. Growing up with a developmentally disabled brother gave her a specific interest in the Special Olympics. She coaches several sports in addition to helping out with the seasonal regional and state competitions. She gets back at least as much as she gives, getting a kick out of seeing the Special Olympians gain such confidence and pride. She loves to help other people accomplish their goals, whether it be crossing the finish line in the Special Olympics cross-country ski race, or finding the perfect home for their family.
